COUNSELLING IN BOURNEMOUTH & ONLINE

You don't have to work through everything on your own.

I'm Shushan, a BACP registered counsellor based in Bournemouth. My aim is to create a warm, non-judgemental space where you feel heard, understood and supported. Counselling can offer an opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings, gain a deeper understanding of yourself, and find ways forward that feel right for you.

Integrative counselling, tailored to you

Being an integrative counsellor means I don't apply one fixed method to everyone. I draw on different therapeutic approaches and shape our work around you: what you bring, how you like to talk things through and what you'd like to be different. If something isn't helping, we can change it together.

Starting where you are

We begin with whatever feels most pressing to you, whether that's something recent or something that has been building for a long time.

Making sense of patterns

Together we can look at how past experiences, relationships and ways of thinking may be shaping how you feel now.

A pace that suits you

You decide how much to share and when. You don't need to have everything worked out before you arrive.

Room to adapt

As your needs change over time, the way we work can change with them.

About me

My way of working is warm, compassionate and human, with a focus on helping you feel genuinely seen, heard and accepted.

Having lived and worked across different cultures, and with professional experience including work with UNICEF and Save the Children, I bring an appreciation of diversity, identity, resilience and the different experiences people bring to counselling.

I draw from different therapeutic approaches to meet you as an individual, working alongside you at your own pace with empathy, honesty and care.

Client feedback

From our very first session, her calm and reassuring nature made me feel at ease. Our sessions were always guided by how I was feeling and what I was ready to talk about. I never felt judged, pushed or persuaded to discuss anything before I was comfortable. Most importantly, I always felt listened to. Shushan has helped me open doors that I had kept closed for a very long time. She has given me the tools to understand the impact my experiences have had on me and learn how to live with them rather than allowing them to define me. I will always be incredibly grateful to Shushan for the support, patience and understanding she has shown me.

I don’t know what it is about Shushan but she is able to get to the jugular of the cause of the situation so quickly and effectively, and does it with such grace and compassion. I end up discussing things in the session I didn’t think I would go near or had in me. It is both eye opening and liberating to get this deep into the issues that matter. I’ve done a fair bit of therapy in the past and there is definitely something unique and special about Shushan’s style. I feel lucky to have worked with her and am learning so much about myself.

I have been searching for the right therapist for me to connect with & have trust in her knowledge and care, I have found this with Shushanik.

Shushanik has been fantastic in challenging me appropriately to introspect and unearth aspects of my past and the ways in which they have impacted me over my life. This is allowing me to better understand where my thoughts and behaviours have emanated from and how I can best reframe and create a new personal story.

Questions about counselling

Some of the things people often want to know before getting in touch. If your question isn't here, you're welcome to ask during your free call.

It's a short, informal conversation. You can tell me a little about what's bringing you to counselling, ask any questions you have and get a sense of whether working with me feels right. There's no obligation to book a session afterwards.

The first session is a chance to talk in more depth about what has brought you to counselling and what you'd like from it. I'll explain how I work and we'll go through the practical arrangements together. You can share as much or as little as you feel ready to.

Counselling is confidential. I'll explain confidentiality and its limits clearly before we begin working together, and you'll have an opportunity to ask any questions.

Each counselling session lasts 50 minutes.

Sessions are generally weekly. Meeting at a regular time each week gives the work some continuity. You're welcome to talk to me about what would suit you during your introductory call.

Yes. Online sessions take place via Zoom, and I also offer telephone sessions. You'll just need somewhere private where you can talk without being interrupted. We can talk through how online sessions work when arranging your appointment.

It varies from person to person. Some people come for a small number of sessions to focus on something specific, while others prefer longer-term work. I offer both short-term and long-term counselling, and we can review together how things are going at any point.
